INSTALLATION & SUPPORT

Get started with installation and service as a drainage engineer or pest control officer

Since 2006, we have worked closely with drainage engineers and pest control officers throughout the country. We have developed products, tools, and software with one purpose: to make the installation and service of rat blockers as efficient, safe, and simple as possible.

EASY INSTALLATION

Installation directly from the surface

With rat blockers from Nordisk Innovation, you get a Danish-produced, high-quality solution that has been tested in over 300,000 installations – and which effectively keeps rats out of the sewer.

Our rat blocker is designed for quick and safe installation – and in the vast majority of cases, it can be installed directly from the surface with our specially designed tools.

NOTE: Access to the manhole cover is essential. It may sometimes be necessary to advise the client to modify the access point to ensure easier future access for maintenance and servicing.

If there are visible signs of rats, action must be taken quickly and in cooperation with the building owner. The rats will usually leave the sewer system shortly after installation, but in some cases it may be necessary to supplement with traps.

We always recommend TV inspection if there is suspicion of damage caused by rats.

RAT BLOCKER

Find the right rat blocker

Before installation, make sure you’re using the right model. This requires that you know:

  • The inner diameter of the pipe
  • Whether the tube is sock-lined or not
  • Is there a corrugated pipe fitted in the manhole
  • Is the manhole a type Tegra or Pipelife?

We have a solution for the vast majority of manholes, pipe material types and sizes – you can easily choose the correct model.

TOOL

Use the right tool

To achieve a correct and safe installation, we recommend:

  • Wolf-Garten telescopic pole (220-400 cm)
  • Mounting head and control tools

This allows for installation from the ground and ensures free flow after installation. For occasional tasks, we also offer fixed mounting rods as a more affordable solution.

SERVICE

Remember service and create a great business

We recommend that the rat blocker is serviced at least once a year. In buildings with a high load (e.g. schools or industrial kitchens), service should be carried out 3–4 times a year – especially if the barrier is installed immediately after a grease trap.

A properly installed and regularly serviced rat blocker has a very low risk of failure. The service typically involves:

  • Dismantling
  • Cleaning
  • Visual inspection
  • Reassembly and functional testing

Always consider service when you submit a quote – it is both an advantage for the customer and a great business for you as a drainage engineer or pest control officer.

SPARE PARTS

Spare parts and upgrades

With proper installation and service, our rat blocker lasts for many years. However, damage can occur – typically in connection with sewer flushing or in the event of strong backflow from the main pipe. That is why we offer:

  • Dampers as spare parts for all models
  • Ability to upgrade older models with the patented LOCK system for added rat protection
FAQ

FAQ: Installation

No, it is not necessary. You can easily mount the barrier from the surface.
Although it is easy to install a rat blocker we recommend that you use the services of a pest control officer or drainage engineer who has undergone our training as recommended on our website.
We recommend at minimum using one of our installation rods, but you will get the best result by also using a control tool that ensures free flow.
You need to know the pipe diameter and whether the sewer is lined or not. For a diameter of Ø200 mm, it is also important to know whether the pipe is made of concrete or PVC.

FAQ: Service

We expect the rat blocker to last at least 10 years and therefore offer a 10-year warranty against corrosion and a 2-year warranty on moving parts.

If the rat blocker is installed correctly and then serviced regularly, it very rarely breaks. It usually only happens if the sewer is flushed without first removing the blocker.
All our rat blockers have a reversible flap. Therefore, you only need to have one variant in your vehicle when installing a new blocker.
We recommend that the rat blocker be serviced at least once a year.

If you have installed a barrier in a building housing many people (e.g., a school or hospital), we recommend a more frequent schedule with 3-4 service visits per year. The same applies to rat blockers installed immediately after a grease separator.

FAQ: Clogged sewer

Our blocker is designed to block rats, but not wastewater. However, the sewer can still become clogged if the blocker is installed in a manhole with a low slope or large dips. Manholes in poor condition also increase the risk of blockage.
It is the sewer specialist’s responsibility to ensure the rat blocker is installed correctly and only in a suitable manhole. Therefore, the sewer specialist must cover the costs if the installation itself has caused a blockage.

The sewer specialist is also responsible for servicing the blocker. If the service agreement is not upheld, the sewer specialist is liable for the costs. However, if the sewer clogs due to foreign objects, it is the building owner who must cover the costs.
We cannot guarantee it 100%, but since our products have been tested with live sewer rats at the Danish Technological Institute and trialed in over 300,000 installations, we confidently conclude that they are highly effective.
